About Us
SQ-BOWLS-4.jpg

David lives in the Teviot Valley in the Scottish Borders. Having been born in the neighbouring valley he has 'aye had a love of the Borderland, its folk and the nature round about. A love of trees endures and it is with this locally grown wood that he creates, often accompanied by the family black labrador pets.  His work has naturally graduated to this local resource and he finds great joy in making something of use and beauty from what would have rotted naturally or been burned as fire-wood.

Time flies when working at the lathe, often listening to music or stuff like the Chipping Forecast (no, a golf podcast, not one about wood… though the subject matter wonderfully morphs up funny alleys). Every log conquered adds to his confidence with the tools. He is delighted that you have touched his orbit and please feel free to follow his progress as he discovers the way in which each log put on the lathe is different and throws up new challenges.

David's current focus is on bowl making following a course with his Highland mentor. Currently there are 2 specific projects:

Walnut from the Lees

From a large bough that fell during storm Arwin down at Coldstream he has made a collection of different bowls.

Yew from the Old Stables

A prince of the woods found growing around many British churchyards, having cleared a tree that fell last winter in the nearby village of Minto he set about working with one of the trickier home grown varieties. But the colours and grains are stunning.
